SPECIALTY COURSES

LEARN TO DIVE, UAE, DUBAI

Specialty courses are an excellent way of safely discovering specific diving environments that may require a little more knowledge and skill than those gained in the Open Water, Advanced or Adventure Diver courses. They are an excellent choice for those who have found they really enjoy certain diving environments and wish to learn how to explore them safely, getting the most enjoyment from them.

DEEP BLU SEA offers almost all of the PADI"IDEA"SSI Specialty courses and we even have our own unique specialty. Have a look through the specialties below and see if any spark your interest.  Some of the specialties have age restrictions to them, for the health and safety of younger divers and all divers must be in good general health to be able to take any specialty course. For more information about SCUBA diving and health conditions please see here (hl:medical). Course StructureThe dives can either be taken all on the same day or over different days, to suit your schedule and are as follows:

Divers as young as 10 can take this specialty, as long as they already possess either an Open Water or Junior Open Water Diver certification.

Enriched Air (EANx) Diver: Ever wondered why there are always other divers using a different tank to yours? The likelihood is that they’re using enriched air nitrox (EANx). There are several benefits to using enriched air over normal compressed air and this is the reason the Enriched Air course is one of Al Boom’s most popular specialties. Enriched air allows divers to stay down longer and return to the water quicker, making it particularly useful on deep dives.
Course StructureThis is a classroom only specialty – there is no need to take training dives with enriched air to complete this course. The course takes half a day with the instructor, in our classrooms and there is an exam on the use of EANx at the end.

Anyone over the age of 15 can take the Enriched Air Diver course, as long as they have Open Water Diver certification or equivalent.

Peak Performance BuoyancyBuoyancy control can be one of the most difficult skills to master, but staying neutrally buoyant is not only useful for conserving air, but is important to avoid damaging the underwater environment. The Peak Performance Buoyancy (PPB) course builds on the basic skills learnt in the Open Water course, providing you with more knowledge and skills to refine your buoyancy control.

Everything from trimming down your gear to hovering almost motionless in the water column is taught and practiced. You’ll polish up skills and learn new ones you probably never even considered!
Course StructureThe PPB specialty course runs over a total of two days, comprising of knowledge development in the classrooms, a pool training session and 2 open water dives, to test skills. Anybody over the age of 10 with an Open Water diver certification or equivalent can enroll on the PPB specialty course.

Deep Diver: Some of the best wrecks lie a little deeper down in the ocean. To investigate deeper sites, specialist training and knowledge of air at depths is needed. The Deep Diver Specialty is designed to provide you with the knowledge for planning and organizing deep dives as well as procedures and techniques, problems and hazards but most importantly how to enjoy life at 18-40 meters down.
Course StructureThe course is conducted over 2 days and 4 open water dives, to a maximum depth of 40 metres, remaining within no-decompression limits. Anyone over the age of 15 years old can take the Deep Diver specialty, as long as they have Adventure Diver certification or higher.

Night Diver: As with life on land, the underwater realm has a whole different set of residents active when the sun goes down. Night dives are unlike any other dives and it is obvious why they are loved by so many. Torches bring out colors in the coral that just cannot be seen during the day, while nocturnal critters come out to play. It really is a completely different world down there at night. Night diving requires different skills compared to diving in the day, including different signals due to using a torch and learning how to deal with orientation.
Course Structure The course compiles of 3 dives over 3 nights. We currently run night dives on Mondays and Wednesdays from our dive center. Sessions start at 6 pm.  Anyone over the age of 12 years old can take the Night Diver Specialty, as long as they are an Open Water Diver or equivalent.

Wreck Diver: This is one of the U.A.Es most popular specialty courses, due to the Dubai coastline being littered with wrecks. Some of the wrecks around the U.A.E date back to the 1960s and provide an interesting insight in to the past. Wreck diving requires a specific and unique set of skills and knowledge, to ensure you get the most enjoyment from the dives, staying safe at the same time. The wreck diver specialty course teaches you how to carefully traverse and penetrate a wreck in a way that’s safe not only for you, but doesn’t damage the aquatic environment.
Course StructureThe wreck specialty is a 4 dive course run over 2 days, involving knowledge development and classroom sessions. Anyone over the age of 15 years old and with Adventure Diver certification or higher can take the Wreck Diver specialty course.

Search and Recovery: When something gets lost underwater, different techniques are required to be able to find it again. The Search and Recovery specialty teaches you how to efficiently search for an item underwater and how to return it to the surface. The course covers search patterns, the use of lift bags and other skills needed to recover lost items.
Course StructureAnyone over the age of 12 can take this specialty, as long as they are either Advanced Open Water or have Underwater Navigation specialty.

Underwater Naturalist: Ever wondered why certain fish are one colour while others are different? Ever wondered where the cleaner shrimp got his name? This specialty teaches you some of the ins-and-outs of the complicated world of marine biology and animal behaviour. You’ll learn how to identify fish, crustaceans, molluscs and others on this course
Course StructureThe course takes a day and consists of some theory and knowledge development with the instructors, both before and after the two open water dives. Anyone with open water certification or above can take Underwater Naturalist.

Underwater Navigator: We all get a little lost at some point, surfacing a little further from the boat than we expected to and that is why underwater navigation is not only a compulsory adventure dive on the advanced course, but a popular specialty course. Underwater Navigator is an excellent specialty to have if you know you’ll be diving in adverse conditions with limited visibility or in conditions where you’ll be traversing sites without obvious landmarks.
Course StructureThe course runs over 2 days and takes a total of 3 dives. It consists of knowledge development, on-land practical sessions as well as underwater natural navigation and compass navigation.

Anyone over the age of 12 and with Open Water Diver certification or equivalent can take the Underwater Navigator Course.

Digital Underwater Photography: Join the growing worldwide army of divers capturing their underwater memories on camera. Digital Underwater Photography is one of the most popular Specialties. The course accommodates beginner photographers, using snap-and-shoot cameras, as well as those ready to invest in more sophisticated equipment. By the end of the course, you’ll know all about the different techniques involved in taking photos underwater.
Course StructureThe course is scheduled from our dive center in OCEANIC Resort & Spa on the East Coast and consists of 2 open water dives, with knowledge development sessions prior to this.

Anyone over the age of 10 with open water certification or equivalent can sign-up for the Digital Underwater Photography course.
